VR Dressing Change Training

Trainees will perform a dressing change (suture) to a surgical wound in a simulated hospital. In between tasks, trainees will answer multiple-choice questions. A knowledge of assessment, sterile technique, and nursing interventions will allow the trainees to care for abdominal post-op patients. Trainees will practice:

  • Reading doctor's orders to carry out a procedure
  • Proper handwashing technique
  • Steps to identify patients
  • Maintaining patient privacy
  • Administering analgesic
  • Gathering supplies for a dressing change procedure
  • Removing an old dressing
  • Inspecting a wound and drainage
  • Adequate steps to open a dressing bundle
  • Maintaining a sterile field
  • Surgical asepsis / sterile technique
